Holiday Highlights

Christmas just ain't what is used to be. And that's not such a bad thing. Gone are the days when I used to wake up at the crack of dawn, cracked out on greed fueled adrenaline. This year I woke up at 9:30 a.m. My brother was so excited he forgot to wake me.

The holidays aren't so much about the gifts I get anymore (even though I did get some pretty awesome ones); they're about the little guy who still believes in Santa, spending time with my family and giving gifts that my they can actually appreciate/like. They're also about my hometown, St. Louis, which  I've grown to appreciate more than ever. I feel so comforted at home and I'm sure I'm not the only one realizes how nice it is to get away every once in a while.

My Holiday Highlights thus far have been hanging out with my high school homies, story time with my grandma (apparently I used to be a ghost whisperer as a child) and lip synching Seal's take on "It's a man's world" in the back of the car tonight while my mom and step dad were in the front.

I only have a couple days left in St. Louis and I'm planning to soak em up.

Happy Holidays!

In love with Lana

Music artist Lana Del Rey is giving me my biggest source of inspiration at the moment. The native New Yorker is relatively new to the music scene and is already making quite the name from herself. Mysterious, ethereal, raw and just plain badass - all wrapped up in a pretty little package.

Watch her crazy ass, sicktastic new video here

For a girl who can’t sing, but wishes more than anything she could - Lana Del Rey is the ultimate.

Not Another Day

Yesterday I had an extremely lazy Sunday that include watching Rent in bed, eating Chinese take out with Kristina and Andy, watching Friends With Benefits, about 5 episodes of Law and Order: SVU and another take out order - this time consisting of an array of Greek food. The highlight? Rent! And quality time with my friends of course. And the food.

I hadn't seen Rent in a while, and it didn't fail to blow me away like it did the first time. Unfortunately I haven't seen the Broadway play (yet), but I think the movie is fantastic. I've always been a big fan of musicals. As a child I was so obsessed with Annie that I actually began to romanticize the idea of being an orphan. Well, I grew out of that, but not out of my love for musical and dance numbers. Rent is a bit more adult themed than Annie, but they both hit me in the heart.

If I could play any character (and had any musical ability) it would be Mimi. Her part in "Another Day" below really strikes a chord with me. So much that I had tears filling my eyes while listening to it in the short walk from the bus to my apartment this evening. I'm emo.

Enjoy the video (sorry about the poor quality) and the lyrics below:

The heart may freeze or it can burn
The pain will ease if I can learn
There is no future
There is no past
I live this moment as my last

Dreaming of a White New Years

I've been in very dark mood lately. With my clothes! It took me a while to notice that recnetly I've been wearing full black ensembles more often than not. Don't get me wrong, I love the girly-goth and rocker-chic looks but I do recognize that I need to mix it up.

What better time to do this than New Years? I've worn black dresess for the past three years (as seen below) so this year I'm thinking of going to the opposite end of the color spectrum. I have a dress in mind but I'll wait until I'm actually wearing it to show it off! What are you wearing for New Years?

HOLY MOLEY

Last night while scouring the roughly 35 blogs I follow religiously, I stumbled upon artist Ilse Valfre's website. Wow! I was immediately obsessed. Her art is like nothing I've ever seen. Beautiful, trendy and quirky with a deliciously dismal touch. It's right up my alley! I'm hoping to buy some of her art asap - I emailed the beautiful artist today. Is this the beginning of a love affair with art? Didn't know I had it in me!

Check out Valfre's amazing work and awesome blog here

Hello. I Live Here.

I'm usually not one to embrace the uber-girly but...someone get me in this room. Right away.

write to me and escape

I've been listening to this song every day for the past two months. Super inappropriate for the time of year. Alas, I love it. This is a song I can't kill.
